Currently :: The Getting Underway Edition

We've been sitting idle for a week while we waited out some nasty weather in the Gulf of Alaska.

It's hard to describe how sitting and taking it easy on a boat is much harder than being underway.

Here's what I've been up to currently...

I've been coloring. I'm so glad I brought my 'adult coloring book' with me. I know it's a fad. I know it screams look at me I'm a yuppy hipster but, I've been grateful for it. I even walked to the hardware store and bought a 64 pack crayola crayon box (because how can you turn down the built in sharpener?!). Apparently, the hardware store is where you go for everything in remote Alaskan villages.

I've been binge watching Game of Thrones. I was on season 1.5 and now I'm on season 4. Need I say more?  Maybe I need to say that the Red Wedding did shock me, I was sad, I now understand why my FB feed was flooded with Red Wedding gasps about two years ago...

I've been Instagramming.  I find it perks me up a bit. Makes me look for the good and beautiful in my day. It allows me to share that with friends. Sure, sure we all pretty up our lives for the insta-love but, I know for myself it's not always a bad thing.

I've been sitting here thinking about what else I'm up to currently and am having a hard time. How's that for mopey boat syndrome?

The bottom line is I'll be headed into the Gulf of Alaska on the final leg of this '8 day trip' *ahem* 'one month trip' and I'll be without Internet. I figured I'd stop by and let you know I'd be away!

Here's to Fair Winds and Following Seas!

Nautie Randomness Bali Edition

These things used to have Roman numerals but honestly, I didn't know what came next so now they get names.  I kinda like it better like this anyways.  This is the Bali Edition - things I meant to tell you before I left for Bali - things I meant to tell you when I got to Bali - things I just want to tell you!

Can someone who reads this blog on a comupter tell me if the above photo (and well, the photos below) are gigantic?  I've been having minor difficulties resizing the photos on my iPad and because Squarespace is right ontop of optimizing posts on mobile devices I can't tell if that photo a) takes forever to load and b) is distorted due to being very, very large!  It's also possible that the flipside is true - are these photos small?  I realize that this makes no sense but the bottom line is:  Do the photos look okay on your viewing platform?!

I haven't ventured too far from my nest since I've been here.  There are a couple reasons why but, one major reason is that I was really behind on 'life'.  There were so many long overdue emails to write / reply to.  Organizing data.  Organizing my schedule.  I didn't quite realize how much I had been going, going, going.  Being here, typing on my iPad, looking out the window, journaling and taking photos has been just what the doctor ordered.

Rice Paddies, A Camera, A Coffee.  Bliss.

Rice Paddies, A Camera, A Coffee.  Bliss.

So far, my morning routine has consisted of waking up really early, finding a mug of something warm, grabbing my camera and strolling along the edges of the rice paddies.  This morning the ravine on the Eastern edge of the ridge was full of mist and thanks to a light rain through the night things were extra dewy.

Just so I don't leave you confused, I wrote some blog posts and set them up as 'scheduled posts'.  I was worried that I wouldn't have enough time to blog on the road and figured thought I'd share some of the photos I took while I was at sea last to keep you company in case of my absence.  I hope this doesn't throw anyone for too much of a loop!

Here's something random for you.  When I was driving from the airport to Ubud I saw a really, really big lizard cross the road.  Big as in, if we hit it we would have felt it.  When my hosts were showing me through my house I asked them if I should keep the doors closed sometimes.  I mean, I'm down with geckos but that thing was bigger than a rat!  My hosts say, 'nah, you should be okay, we only had a snake in the house once!'.  *Gulp* I might be at one with the tropics but....we don't have snakes in Hawaii!  Then he says, 'that's why the houses are tiled - snakes can't slither on tile!'.  What?!  Good to know?!  Whew?!  Snakes?!

Thanks for tagging along with me!

I've been working on getting my ship together (see what I did there?).  I've been writing thank you notes, running errands, reorganizing my car and suitcases, laying on the couch watching so you think you can dance, making kale smoothies, trying to eliminate milk from my coffee, organizing photos, working on future blog posts (hello slacker-ville) and text messaging friends and family of future sightings.  Whew.  I'm exhausted and maybe a little hungry.

Other randomness, you ask?

My auntie has three chihuahuas and they're hilarious.  They make funny faces and run around the yard.  They've definitely been providing some comedic relief.

California needs some water.  It's dry.  My lips and elbows are chapped.  Let's hope for some rain and in the meantime I'll have another glass of water.

Don't ever go into a bead store if you don't actually need beads.  I spent a crap ton of money on beads...and now I'm looking at them thinking when the heck am I going to have time to bead?!

I took a roll and tone class yesterday at a yoga studio.  Have you ever heard of such a thing?  There was a big foam (like hard foam) roller and we rolled our bodies all over it for kind of a full body massage meets core work out.  It was maybe a little harder than I expected.  Who knew it was gonna hurt like a bitch when I rolled my buns over a foam roller?!

The photo I put up there is a cactus that we saw near Joshua Tree National Park....I'm gonna make it part of a series that I'm kinda looking forward too.

I'm really hoping that this little post here resets my creative juices and gets me back on the blogging band wagon!  Come ooooon creative juices!
